Description:

The Instrument Designer will design and specify devices used to control new electronic or mechanical systems or redesign/replace/upgrade older devices used to control existing electronic or mechanical systems.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develops Instrumentation and Control portion of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's)
• Specifies instrumentation to meet project needs based on analysis of present equipment inefficiency and need for improvement for existing installation.
• Collaborates with other engineers to determine which accurate, efficient equipment and instrumentation to specify in accordance with current safety and client performance standards.
• Conducts research on new or enhancements to existing technologies that may improve the field of instrumentation engineering and presents findings to other engineers.
• Creates and/or reviews basic schematics.
• Has capability to oversee the implementation of new measuring devices and control systems, ensuring devices are correctly installed and properly tested.
• Drafts Scope of Work Documents.
• Provides training related to devices to clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of the design, development, and application of a wide variety of instruments, including analyzers.
• Thorough understanding of applied math and physics.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Capability to efficiently work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Proficient with computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering required.
• 5-15 years of practical experience highly desired.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
• Perform site surveys which include climbing
